How to build your winter SHOT SKI!

I know the semester is over, and I was probably the only one sad to not have one more blog post because I had many more ideas, so this is my last post for you all. Last christmas my boyfriends mother made ourselves and his cousin a shot ski. Which is a single ski blade with three to more shot glasses attached to it. Which does mean you should take your shots within a group of three or more, at one time!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1. A drill
2. Safety glasses and a disposable particulate mask
3. A 1-3/8in Forstner drill bit
4. Measuring tape
5. A permanent marker
6. Heavy-duty clear silicone adhesive (I use Loctite Stik’N Seal Outdoor)
7. Four or more thick polycarbonate or acrylic shot glasses. This thing is going to be dropped, stepped on, strapped to the roof of your car, and generally abused by drunken idiots, so plastic > glass.
8. An old pair of wood-core skis. The longer the better, but anything over 190cm should suffice. Avoid skis with metal laminate layers as they are harder to drill, and try to find skis with sidewalls intact. Look for iconic models, neon colors, and crazy graphics. Why do you need a pair of skis? In case you screw up, that’s why.
How To Make It
1. Step 1: Measure the Base. With your donor ski on the ground, measure the ski from the forward base-contact point to the rear base-contact point. ... 
2. Step 2: Mark the Shot Glass Placements. ... 
3. Step 3: Drill, Baby, Drill. ...

With Thanksgiving right around the corner,  in just 2 short days away, everyone is coming back into town to be with loved ones. Most people arrive back in town by Wednesday, which is one of the bigger drinking nights of the year. www.brobible.com posted a blog called  "10 Reasons Why Thanksgiving Eve is the Best Bar Night of the Year."

Rainbow Shots!!

This is one of my favorite shots to make if I have time and concentration. It is super difficult to get all the colors to come out perfectly, but everyone is always impressed regardless. Before watching please keep in mind that there is hardly any alcohol in these shots: 

• Grenedine (liqueur) 
• Sweet & Sour (juice)
• Orange Juice (juice)
• Vodka (ALCOHOL) 
• Blue Curacao  (liqueur)

When Regular's Think They OWN The Bar....

From the title itself, I beat you can see where I am going with this story.

Sunday night, we started off the evening shift, busy, right out of the gate. Shift change was not the easiest thing in the world, as the day shift bartenders were trying to close out tabs and their drawers and we were trying to start tabs, and open our drawers, while people were just filling up left and right. Eventually we hit a lull in the night around 9pm. In came two tables, together totally about 6 guests and then another couple at the bar.

While they all seem to be enjoying themselves and their meals, in comes a group of regulars, SHOUTING AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS.  They bring in an older gentlemen who we had never met, who could only be described as the 'Godfather,' ha! In the beginning, I thought that he might of been a bit on the deaf side, except I was talking quite as a mouse (as usual), and he could here me clear as day, without asking me to ever repeat myself. He then followed by asking me if we had any form of karaoke, when I informed him I did not, within about 15 minutes, the SHOUTING began again, this time it was a shouting/yelling/opera/hispanic style 'singing' at the top of his lungs.

Between my other bartender and myself, we could not get him to even quite down, let alone stop. The couple sitting at the bar, who actually came in for the first time, to see another bartender who was out of town, decided to say something. **Mind you, by this time, the other two tables had up and left, due to the racket.** When the couple asked them repeatedly to stop singing so loud, the guys he was with, our 'regulars.' Informed them that they (the couple) were out of place, and that my bar was their bar. AS IF THEY OWNED THE PLACE.

I tried making piece with the couple, the but group of regulars kept antagonizing them, to the point that they also left. The bar that I manage, is not owned, or even particularly owned by any of those regulars. They may 'spend a lot of money at the bar.' But they sure do not tip more than a couple bucks, many of times less than 5%.
To the point that I am in a stand still on how to approach the situation, as my actual owner, will probably side with the regulars...A bar cannot operate soley on pleasing only the regulars, it will fail and close in no time.

This must just be a Sunday thing for me. I only have these big issues with rowdy customers on Sunday evenings. Sheesh!

The Restaurant Ep. #5

There is a youtube channel called The Restaurant. It is more or less, a short series of restaurant employee's portraying things that fellow industry employees can relate to.

KC Royals World Series Win Restores Faith in Humanity

As I have noted previously, my bar has a 1:30 a.m. liquor license in Missouri, which embeds a midnight closing time of Sundays.
This last Sunday was game 5 in the World Series with the Kansas City Royals verses the New York Mets. The series standings were Kansas City, 3 game wins, and the New York Mets, 1 game win. The Kansas City Royals only needed one more game win to win the World Series title for 2015. As many of us watched, the New York Mets were up 2-0 up until the 8th inning. By the eighth inning, the Kansas City Royals tied up the score at 2-2. By the end of the 12th inning, the Kansas City Royals had won the World Series title for 2015 as the clock struck 11:36p.m.


*Freak out mode* We have to be closed in 24 minutes! And the entire bar just rushed the streets in celebration!


My faith in humanity was restored in humanity when EVERY SINGLE person with an open tab, (without their credit cards on file), came back into the bar, before midnight, to respectfully pay their tabs. I think this is something that you would only truly find in the Midwest. Not to mention, there was no vandalism or destruction of property in Kansas City, while celebrating our victory. Wow.
